While food storage is a must for preparing for any kind of emergency, small or large scale, within homes or outside like in times of floods, earthquakes, cyclones etc, one must not go overboard and overload and stuff to such an extent that one has so much excess that, if proper care is not taken , it might just go waste.
An emergency kit which will be sufficient for a family’s needs for 3 or 4 days at the most is more than enough if one gets stuck in basements or houses in times of severe snowfall conditions and cyclones passing by etc. By that time some help will definitely be on the way.
There are so many traditional and modern, innovative, scientific procedures of food preservation and food Storage.
Some of the most well known procedures for food preservation and storage which keeps grains fresh for months or even years are total drying or dehydration procedures that focus on removing water content, which is one of the causes for food spoilage. Others are freeze-drying, spray-drying, cold storage, pickling procedures, storing fruits in jam or marmalade or jelly form, irradiating food with high speed concentrated rays which ensure that nutrient value, taste, texture, freshness of food is preserved to the maximum extent possible, treating food with friendly bacteria, which will prevent the harmful bacteria from spoiling the food.
